The Creature From The Black Lagoon is a fond one from childhood memory and the immediate impression upon watching the bluray is how amazing the high definition remaster appears. The underwater scenes (while impressive, even more so considering when it was made) are less clear but the rest is pin sharp and full of detail.

The plot is standard monster shocks and scares (nonetheless highly effective) as an international cast try to survive in a confined environment and the performances are adequate (if wooden) and there’s some good tension establishes between characters.

What makes this stand out though is the confident direction of Jack Arnold, cranking up the thrills, and a superlative creature design that, yet again in the Universal Horror pantheon, stands the test of time.
